Turbines approached REACT to produce low cost, complicated tooling components
for investment casting tools. SLA tooling halves were inexpensive compared
to traditional methods and much quicker to produce. From the initial 2D
drawings supplied by the organisation 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) data
was produced and checked. Then 3D CAD tooling halves were produced and
from this SLA components created. Wren fitted these Direct AIM models
into aluminium tools, and was able to produce very high quality wax patterns
for investment casting purposes. The tooling has exceeded the expected
quality of the product, and has produced successful castings. A number
of tools have now been manufactured by the same route with the same success.
"Without REACT there would not have been a viable product to sell - there
might not even have been a Wren Turbines! The accuracy of the components
produced at REACT has undoubtedly increased the efficiency of the engine
and we are indebted to the centre for its support."
