| Wed 30th Oct 2002 : ASSISTANCE HELPS BUSINESS TO GET MARKET ALL ‘SEWN UP’ |
|
REACT (The Regional Technology Centre) has been assisting Rotherham-based
business Russums, which specialises in supplying the hospitality industry
with a range of catering equipment and clothing, to get niche markets sewn
up, including increasing their share of the bespoke embroidery market.
For many years the firm, which has been run by the Russum family for six generations, was well known as Rotherham brush manufacturers, E Russum & Sons Ltd. However, under the guidance of the present managing director, Peter Russum, the firm began to diversify and 20 years ago moved to their present premises to specialise in supplying the catering industry. The company has a showroom at their Rotherham premises selling a variety of culinary items including Russum branded knives, which are manufactured in Sheffield. Commercial Manager, Richard Russum said: “Over the years our reputation has grown, and we now supply many catering and hospitality related customers throughout the country. Getting in touch with REACT enabled us to tap into a huge range of assistance and specialist knowledge. “With their help we accessed a second grant through the ‘Invest for Growth’ scheme, managed by Yorkshire Company Services, that has enabled us to purchase a sophisticated and efficient embroidering machine. This has had significant results, and we are now more competitive, able to produce a wider range of corporate logos and are capturing a growing share of this busy market. “REACT also arranged for us to have the services of a ‘Technician into Industry’ who has been working with us for some time on our IT requirements, marketing and getting our internet shop on-line, and we are now successfully trading at www.russums-shop.co.uk “Having a local organisation, like REACT, that we can turn to and have complete confidence in their knowledge and impartiality has certainly turned out to be a winning recipe.” |
