| Mon 1st Jul 2002 : New jobs created for more Technology Associates in Rotherham |
|
Another Rotherham job seeker has taken his first step
on a new career path thanks to the Technology Associates Scheme pilot programme
sponsored by REACT and UK Steel Enterprise.
Twenty-seven-year old Craig Elliss was head-hunted for the six months work placement as a calibration engineer with Profile Gauge & Tool Co Ltd of Mangham Way on the Barbot Hall Industrial Estate in Rotherham after he was made redundant.
Technical sales manager Allan Whitworth appreciates how the Technology Associates Scheme is giving Profile Gauge and Tool an advantage over its competitors. He said: "This scheme enables us to get the expensive hi-tech training for Craig that he needs to bring him up to the high standard of work expected by customers who use our precision engineering services. We will definitely be keeping him on when his placement finishes. "Craig is now a leading member of our calibration team which has given us an advanced calibration ability for our customers in the automotive, medical instrument, aerospace and steel industries where the service needs to be of the highest standard." Keith Williams, Regional Manager for UK Steel Enterprise which has committed £12,000 to the cost of technology training, commented "Our intention in backing this project was to see new jobs created in South Yorkshire and the scheme is now well on track. By providing the sponsorship for their training we are helping job seekers with good practical skills to find new careers. At the same time we are helping industry achieve high standards by making use of the latest technologies. Everyone benefits." Project manager Philip Hudson at REACT, who have committed equal funds, added: "The Technology Associate Scheme is now gathering real momentum, the scheme has allowed us to draw upon considerable resources to support the development for both company and the individual placement. TAS is acting as a real catalyst within local businesses, providing an excellent platform for technology transfer and stimulating many projects, jobs and business opportunities that my not have been realised without the scheme." |
