| Tue 5th Aug 2003 : Plastics in Healthcare Innovation |
| On
Wednesday 24th September, Medilink's (Yorkshire & Humber) Product Innovation
department is staging a half-day event directed at utilising plastics for
medical applications, which has been organised for any company involved
in the manufacture of medical related equipment, devices and instruments.
The event, which is being held here at REACT, The Regional Technology Centre, will focus on the product development process - covering the importance of design and materials selection, prototyping and modelling tools, and legislation adherence. Concluding six presentations, the event will close with a case study presented by a South Yorkshire Company, discussing a specific product that has been taken from concept through productionisation and testing/validation to product launch. Also included in the event is a presentation giving an overview of the new medical devices industry initiative - Medical Devices Faraday Partnership, which will inform delegates on the benefits to companies that may look to get involved. Medilink's Product Innovation manager, Chris Allcard, who has organised the event, says, "The event is pitched at quite a simplistic level and is directly aimed at companies that traditionally use metals in product components, who may benefit by incorporating plastic for technical benefits and/or cost reductions. I am confident that the event will provide the basic foundations for a company looking to utilise polymers in future product development projects." The event will commence at 8.00am, and costs are £50.00 (excluding VAT) per delegate for Medilink members or £70.00 (excluding VAT) per delegate for non-members of Medilink.
